GEN II 

John TUCKER was born in 1719, Stour Provost to parents John TUCKER and Susannah. John Married Mary RIDOUT on the 4th December 1750 at Stour Provost. They had the following four children:

  2. Grace - Born in 1753, Stour Provost.
  3. Phillip - Born in 1755, Stour Provost.
  4. John - Born in 1757, Stour Provost. Married Mary CHINN in 1773. Died in 1803, Stour Provost.

 

GEN III

John TUCKER was born in 1757 in Stour Provost, Dorset, He married Mary CHINN on the 13th February 1773 at Hindon Mary St, Dorset. Mary was born on the 3rd August 1754 at Hindon Mary St. They had the following seven children:

  2. James – born 3rd June 1774, Hindon St Mary, Dorset. Died before 1781.
  3. Rachel Chinn - born 30th July 1776, Todber, Dorset.
  4. James – born 30th September 1781, Stour Provost, Dorset.
  5. William – born 1783, Stour Provost. Married Elizabeth Hunt in 1807, Stour Provost.
  6. Leah – born 1st May 1785, Stour Provost, Dorset.
  7. Joseph – born 1792, Stour Provost, Dorset.

Mary died in Stour Provost on the 27th September 1801. John died on the 22nd July 1803 at Stour Provost.

 

GEN IV

William TUCKER was born in 1783 in Stour Provost to John Tucker and Mary Chinn. William was a farmer by trade and married Elizabeth HUNT on the 23rd November 1807 in Stour Provost. They had the following eight children:

  1. Thomas – born 14th February 1808, Stour Provost, Dorset. Agricultural Labourer. Died in 1905 aged 97 years, Stour Provost. Thomas married his first wife Caroline Wilmott in 1834, Shaftesbury, and they had the following five children. Caroline died in 1862, and Thomas married his second wife Rhoda Pike in 1864, Shaftesbury.

    3. John - born 1843, Stour Provost.
    4. Henry - born 1846, Stour Provost.
    5. Elizabeth - born 1852, Stour Provost.

  2. William – born 9th December 1809, Stour Provost, Dorset. Farmer. Married Elizabeth Munday in 1833, Fisherton Anger. William died in 1892 aged 94 years. William and Elizabeth had the following five children:

    2. William - born 1840, Stour Provost.
    3. William Stephen - born 1849, Stour Provost.
    4. Anna Ellen - born 1855, Stour Provost.
    5. Emma Jane - born 1858, Motcombe.

  3. Stephen – born 21st May 1815, Stour Provost. Dairyman. Married Sophia Pike in 1838. Stephen died in 1880, Wells. Stephen and Sophie had the following six children:


    1. Arthur - born 1840, Stour Provost.
    2. Mary - born 1841, Stour Provost.
    3. Elizabeth - born 1843, Stour Provost.
    4. Emmanuel - born 1846, Stour Provost.
    5. Ann - born 1848, Stour Provost.
    6. Walter - born 1851, Stour Provost.

  4. Luke – born 27th November 1816, Stour Provost, Dorset. Dairyman. Married Mary Warren in 1840, Stour Provost. Luke died in 1896, Stour Provost and had the following child with Mary:


    1. Edwin - born 1844, Stour Provost.

  5. Charles – born 20th May 1821, Stour Provost, Dorset. Dairyman Farmer & Master Miller. Charles married Mary Ann Street in 1843, and died in 1913 aged 92 years. Charles and Mary Ann had the following three children:


    1. John  - born 1844, Stour Provost.
    2. Hannah - born 1863, Stour Provost.
    3. Elizabeth H - born 1873, Shaftesbury.

  6. Anna – born 27th May 1824, Stour Provost, Dorset. Married James Pike. Anna died in 1903, Westbury aged 79 years. Anna and John had the following six children:


    1. Eliza Jane - born 1845, Margaret Marsh, Dorset.
    2. Tom - born 1849, Margaret Marsh, Dorset.
    3. Elizabeth - born 1853, Fontmell Magna, Dorset.
    4. May S - born 1858, Fontmell Magna, Dorset.
    5. Henry John - born 1860, Fontmell Magna, Dorset.
    6. Wyndham - born 1863, Fontmell Magna, Dorset.

  7. Martin – born 31st January 1828, Stour Provost, Dorset. Farmer. Married Sarah Duffett in 1854 and Mary Jane Yeoman in 1890. Died 1921 Keevil.
  8. John – born 16th December 1830, Stour Provost, Dorset. Agricultural Labourer & Farmer. John married Hannah Burden in 1854, Shaftesbury, and his second wife Sarah Whiting in 1891.

William died on the 27th February 1831 in Stour Provost. At the time of the 1841 census, Elizabeth was living at Head Lane, Stour Provost. Elizabeth died in 1841. William was most likely a Farmer by trade and his sons followed in this occupation.

 

GEN V

Martin TUCKER was born on the 31st January 1828, Stour Provost, Dorset to William Tucker and Elizabeth Hunt. Martin was a farmer by trade and married his first wife Sarah DUFFETT, daughter of Samuel Duffett, Butcher and Elizabeth Fudge, on the 17th January 1854 in Motcombe. Martin signed his name with the mark of an “X” as he could not write at this time.  Martin and Sarah had the following seven children:

  1. Elizabeth – born in 1854, Motcombe.
  2. Hannah Elizabeth – born in 1855, Motcombe. Died on the 25th May 1880 at Keevil. Farmers daughter. She is buried at the Primative Methodist Chapel in Seend Cleeve with her parents.
  3. William Stephen – born in 1856, Motcombe. Local preacher at the Primative Methodist Chapel in Seend Cleeve, Wiltshire. Died on the 23rd February 1922 at Seend. He is buried at the Primative Methodist Chapel in Seend Cleeve.
  4. Samuel Duffett – born in 1859, West Stour, Dorset. Dairyman & Farmer. Married Mary Dyer in 1884. Died in 1938, Holt, Wiltshire.
  5. John – born in 1860, West Stour. Farmers Son.
  6. Tom – born in 1863, Maiden Bradley. Died on the 20th December 1953, Trowbridge. Farmer.
  7. Charles Edward – born in 1870, Marston, Somerset. Died on Christmas Day in 1918 at Keevil.

Martin and Sarah lived in Motcombe, Kington Farm in West Stour, Marston Bigot in Somerset, and Longleaze Farm in Keevil.

Martin Tucker

Sarah died on the 7th February 1881 at Longleaze Farm, Keevil. Martin married his second wife Mary Jane YEOMAN in 1890. After Sarah died, Martin and Mary Jane lived at Longleaze Farm, Keevil.  Sarah is buried with her husband Martin at the Primative Methodist Chapel in Seend Cleeve. Martin died on the 15th July 1921 at Longleaze Farm aged 93 years.

 

GEN VI

Samuel Duffett TUCKER was born in 1859, West Stour, Dorset to Martin Tucker and Sarah Duffett. Samuel was a Dairyman and Farmer by trade and married Mary DYER, Nursery Governess, in 1884, Wiltshire. Mary was born in 1859 to Frank Dyer and Caroline Davis of Babcary. Samuel and Mary had the following six children:

GEN VII

  1. Samuel Charles – born 31st May 1885, The Mill, Steeple Ashton. Farmer. Died on the 10th March 1980 at Holt, Wiltshire.
  2. Florence Mary – born 10th December 1886, The Mill, Steeple Ashton. Died on the 9th February 1970, Trowbridge.
  3. Edwin Dyer – born 17th September 1889, The Mill Steeple Ashton. Farmer. Married Eleanor Margaret Cottle in 1920, Melksham and died on the 14th April 1969 at Whaddon, Trowbridge.
  4. Anna Elizabeth – born in 1891, The Mill, Steeple Ashton. Known as "Tib". Married Ralph Alexander Cottle ( brother of above Eleanor Cottle ). in 1922, Bradford on Avon.
  5. Daisy May – born 15th April 1895, The Mill, Steeple Ashton. Died in 1945 of a blood transfusion during WWII.
  6. Herbert Sidney – born 28th December 1899, Holt. Died on the 24th March 1900 and is buried with his parents at St Katherine’s Parish Church, Holt.

After they were married Samuel and Mary lived at Ashton Mill Farm in Steeple Ashton for around 20 years. They were then living at Manor Farm, Holt in 1911 and Holt House in 1918.

Samuel Duffett Tucker Mary Dyer

Samuel Duffett Tucker died on the 29th November 1938 at Holt, and is buried with his wife Mary at St Katherine’s Parish Church in Holt. Mary died on the 21st September 1944.

 

GEN VII

Edwin Dyer TUCKER was born on the 17th September 1889 at The Mill, Steeple Ashton to Samuel Duffett Tucker and Mary Dyer. Edwin was baptised on the 12th Jan 1891 at the Primitive Methodist Chapel in the parish of Steeple Ashton. Known as “Jack”, Edwin was a farmer by trade and married Eleanor Margaret COTTLE on the 21st April 1920 at the Parish Church in Melksham. Eleanor Cottle was born on the 29th March 1895 in Melksham to Charles Richard Cottle and Henrietta Elizabeth Brooke. Edwin and Eleanor had the following six children:

  1. Margaret Joan – born 1st June 1921, Whaddon. Known as “Molly”, married Steven Stevens. Died on the 20th February 1991 and is buried at the Parish Church in Hilperton.
  2. Vera Mary Elizabeth – born in 1923, Whaddon. Married Dick Taylor.
  3. Rupert John – born 10th May 1925, Whaddon. Farmer by trade and married June Rose in 1948. Died on the 21st June 2002 and is buried at the Parish Church in Hilperton.
  4. David Frank – born 10th July 1926, Whaddon. Farmer. Married Barbara.
  5. Charles Richard – born 10th September 1927, Whaddon. Farmer. Married Pamela, died in 1995.
  6. Caroline R – born in 1938, Whaddon. Married Kingsley Noad.

 

Wedding of Edwin Dyer Tucker & Eleanor Margaret Cottle,  21st April 1920.

After they were married Edwin and Eleanor lived at Whaddon Farm. Edwin was a Farmer and also an Air Raid Warden at the time of the 2nd World War.

Edwin Dyer Tucker  

Edwin died on the 14th April 1969.  “TUCKER – Edwin D (Jack) at Grove Gates, Whaddon, Trowbridge, passed away in his 80th year on the 14th April 1969”

He is buried at the Parish Church in Hilperton. Eleanor died on the 18th March 1893 at Grove Gates, Whaddon. She is buried with her husband, and died of renal failure and old age.

    2. Louisa - Born 1827, Charlton Adam, Somerset.
    3. Edwin - Born 1830, Charlton Adam, Somerset.

  2. Jane - Bapt 6th April 1800, Babcary. Married Samuel Vincent 5th January 1844, Folke, Dorset. Jane died on the 167th Feb 1861, Folke, Dorset.

  3. Henry - Born on the 4th March 1802, Babcary. Agricultural Labourer. Married Sarah Wagland in 1828. Died on the 4th February 1864, Babcary.

  4. Grace - Baptised on the 23rd September 1804, Holy Cross Church, Babcary.

  5. Mary - Baptised on the 12th April 1807, Holy Cross Church, Babcary.

  6. Elizabeth - Baptised on the 29th July 1810, Holy Cross Church, Babcary.

  7. William - Baptised on the 10th May 1812, Holy Cross Church, Babcary. Died on the 13th December 1835, Babcary.

  8. John - Born in 1815, Babcary. Stone Mason. Married Mary Martin.

 

Elizabeth died on the 9th January 1846, her husband Henry died on the 4th May 1851, both at Babcary, Somerset.

GEN III

Henry DYER was born on the 4th March 1802 in Babcary to parents Henry Dyer and Elizabeth Laceybooth. Henry was an Agricultural Labourer by trade and married Sarah WAGLAND on the 20th October 1828, Babcary. Sarah was born in 1804, East Lydford to parents Samuel Wagland and Edith Walker. Henry and Sarah had the following ten children:

  1. Sarah Ann - Baptised on the 25th December 1828, Holy Cross Church, Babcary. House Keeper. Sarah had 4 children out of wedlock. She was in the Langport Union Workhouse at the time of the 1871 census, and then went onto marry John Slade on the 29th May 1871 at Babcary. Sarah died in 1897, Old Sodbury.



    1. Valentine Dyer - Born 1851, Babcary, Somerset.
    2. Emily Dyer - Born 1854, Babcary, Somerset.
    3. Kate Dyer - Born 1860, Babcary, Somerset.
    4. Louisa Dyer - Born 1866, Babcary, Somerset.


  2. Frank - Bapt 10th March 1830, Babcary. Cattle Dealer. Married Caroline Davis in 1854.

  3. Samuel - Baptised on the 11th March 1832, Holy Cross Church, Babcary. Agricultural Labourer and Drover. At the time of the 1861 census, Samuel was a patient in the General Hospital, at St James's, Bath. he died in 1865.

  4. Eliza - Baptised on the 15th June 1834, Holy Cross Church, Babcary. Glover by trade. Died in 1899, Frome.

  5. Mary Jane - Baptised on the 25th September 1836, Holy Cross Church, Babcary. Married samuel Daw on the 20th Apr 1863 in Babcary. Mary Jane died in 1912, Wiltshire. Samuel and Mary Jane had the following eight children:

    2. Ellen Sarah - Born 1867, Chilmark, Wilts.

  6. Matilda - Baptised on the 20th January 1839, Holy Cross Church, Babcary. Dressmaker & Laundress. Married William Bowden on the 27th Sep 1864, Babcary.

  7. Harriett - Baptised on the 20th February 1842, Holy Cross Church, Babcary. Harriett married John Sweet on the 22nd Dec 1860 in Babcary. Harriett and John emmigrated to Australia and arrived on the 6th March 1884 aboard the shop "Corona". They had the following ten children:

    2. Francis Louisa - Born 1863, Butleigh, Somerset.

  9. Edith - Baptised on the 3rd October 1847, Holy Cross Church, Babcary. Servant.

  10. Mark - Baptised on the 7th April 1850, Holy Cross Church, Babcary. Agricultural Labourer.

Henry and Sarah lived in Babcary for over 40 years, including Cary Road in Babcary. Henry died on the 4th February 1864, and is buried at the Holy Cross Church, Babcary. Sarah died on the 7th March 1867.

 

GEN IV

Frank DYER was born in 1831, Babcary to parents Henry Dyer and Sarah Wagland. Frank was a Cattle Dealer by trade and married Caroline DAVIS on the 1st June 1854 at St Thomas's Church, Bristol. Caroline was born in 1831 at East Lydford. Frank and Caroline had the following twelve children:

Frank and Caroline lived at Cary Road and Hill House in Babcary.  Frank died on the 13th January 1891 at Babcary, aged 60 years. Caroline died on the 30th October 1905 in Babcary aged 81 years.
